During the presidential impeachment hearings, the Kardashians were mentioned alongside A$AP Rocky and Jay Leno. The reason for these mentions has to do with President Donald Trump’s attempt to release rapper A$AP Rocky from Swedish jail earlier this year.
“Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky,” Trump said on Twitter.
Shortly after this tweet, Trump had a phone call with Gordon Sondland, Trump’s ambassador to the European Union, to discuss the rapper’s freedom. David Holmes, foreign service office official, claims he overheard this conversation and testified to such during the impeachment hearings.
“Ambassador Sondland told the president that the rapper was, ‘kind of eff’d there’.’ He used the actual word and ‘he should have pled guilty,” Holmes testified. “He recommended that the President, quote, ‘wait until after the sentencing or it would only make it worse,’ unquote, adding, the President should, ‘let him get sentenced, play the racism card, and give him a ticker-tape when he comes home.”
This is where the conversation takes a turn towards the Kardashians.
“Sweden should have released him on your word, but that, ‘you can tell the Kardashians you tried’,” Holmes said, regarding a statement Sondland said.
After this statement, followers on Twitter have once again made the Kardashians a trending topic.
