After 14 weeks of protests and arrests, Jane Fonda hosted her last Fire Drill Friday today at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. The weekly protest demanding urgent action to battle climate change began on Oct. 11, 2019, and has drawn support from dozens of celebrities and activists.
For the final protest, Fonda was joined by Susan Sarandon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Sheen. Phoenix and Sheen were arrested at the protest.
This final protest focused on the banks and investors that finance fossil fuel exploration, drilling, refining and export.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Fire Drill Friday will be taking a pause so that Jane Fonda can return to Los Angeles to film the final season of “Grace and Frankie.” Starting on Feb. 7, Fire Drill Fridays will resume in California.
