J.Crew Hires Former Victoria’s Secret and Spanx Exec as New CEO

The presence of girl power continues to fill the air! Former chief executive of Victoria’s Secret and former CEO of Spanx, Jan Singer, recently had the pleasure of being named the new CEO of specialty retail company, J.Crew.

The American retailer, best known for its unique assortment of apparel and accessories, has been without a CEO for more than a year and has accumulated a whopping $1.7 billion worth of debt over a large span of time. With her impressive credentials in the retail business, the company believes that Singer will be the perfect woman to lead the brand back to the top.

During her time as Victoria’s Secret’s CEO, Singer, 55, used her skills in customer service to actively steer the company away from its “sexy” image and push it more toward an inclusive concept that could suit women’s personal needs (i.e. comfort, fit, etc.). In 2018, however, Singer stepped down as the company’s CEO as the company continued to struggle to grow, despite the applaudable effort that she put forth.

Now, Singer has the opportunity to showcase her savvy skills again. With J. Crew’s considerable amount of debt and declining sales, Singer sure has her work cut out for her. Set to begin as the new CEO on Feb. 2, 2020, Singer will have to use the years’ worth of powerful knowledge that she has gained to get the J.Crew company back on track—and with her experience and intellect, the J.Crew brand will be revived in no time!
