Is Chrissy Teigen Giving Up Her Twitter Reign to Protect Her Family?

By  |

Chrissy Teigen is often referred to as the “unofficial queen of Twitter” because her quick wit and sharp tongue allows her to fearlessly cut down any Twitter troll who comes after her. What many fans don’t realize though is that Teigen is also a fierce mama bear who prioritizes the safety of her family, which is why a recent thread of hateful tweets is especially “scary” to her and might incite her final resignation from the social networking app.

Teigen’s fears were triggered after a swarm of internet-users targeted her for an unsubstantiated claim that she was involved with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking operation. Such a serious allegation inspired fans to conduct personal investigations and deep dive the archives of Teigen’s Twitter account where they discovered a number of unflattering tweets dating back to 2013.

Teigen tried to sidestep the Twitter frenzy by vehemently denying any association with Epstein or Maxwell and cleaning out her old tweets. She defended herself in a post saying, “I actually deleted 60,000 tweets because I cannot f*cking STAND you idiots anymore and I’m worried for my family. Finding me talking about toddlers and tiaras in 2013 and thinking you’re some sort of f*cking operative.”

The intensity of the Twitter wrath forced Teigen to block over one million of her harassers and make her account private, but her efforts did little to protect her from the outpouring of criticism against her. On July 14, she announced, “If Twitter doesn’t do something about this *actually scary* harassment, I am gonna have to go.”

The typically thick-skinned former model is famous for withstanding and rebutting the internet-backlash with seeming ease, but apparently, she draws the line at her family’s well-being. It looks like for the sake of her husband John Legend, her four-year-old daughter Luna, and her two-year-old son Miles, Twitter might have to crown a new queen.

For now, Twitter will have to do just that in her absence. In another tweet, she added, “When pedo ghislaine (Maxwell) sings like a canary (if she doesn’t die) and we have nothing to do with this, I know for a fact it won’t go away. They’ll just think of another excuse. It is extremely disheartening. I don’t know how to stop this. i don’t think anyone quite gets it.”
