Bhad Bhabie and Bad Bunny, #BLM Silence is Loud

By  |

Since the onset of protests in the death of George Floyd, many celebrities are using their social media platform to speak out against police brutality and racial injustice through protests and posts, but some celebrities have stayed silent during this period.

Celebrities such as Bad Bunny and Danielle Bergoli, professionally known as “Bhad Bhabie,” who have benefited from personal adaptations of black culture have yet to make a post on their Instagram or Twitter accounts in reference to the current online movement using hashtags #BLM and others.

Other celebrities who have admitted to appropriating black culture,  such as Justin Beiber and Justin Timberlake, have come out in full support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Those of us who call ourselves allies need to do everything in our power to stand with the black community right NOW. BLACK people are regularly being murdered unjustly by police. We have seen it. Over and over again. This has gone on in America for too long, and it’s NEVER been okay. We have to take action, we have to make noise.⠀ ⠀ For seven whole minutes, #GeorgeFloyd pleaded for his life, while Derek Chauvin, one of Minneapolis cops involved, kneeled on his neck and ignored those pleas for help.⠀ ⠀ Allies… this is the time for us all to take a hard look in the mirror, share responsibility and ask our family and friends what can we do to educate our own communities. ⠀ ⠀ I stand with @ColorOfChange and countless others across the country to raise my voice alongside you, and demand that all FOUR officers involved are arrested and charged with murder now. Text FLOYD to 55156. Sign the petition. Don’t stop.

Both Beiber and Timberlake have been using their social media platforms to bring awareness to the BLM movement. Both have posted petitions, as well as different organizations to which to donate.

Unlike them, Bhad Bhabie and Bad Bunny have yet to make a formal post in support of the BLM movement, and their silence is being called out across social media.

After receiving an immense amount of scrutiny on social media over his silence, Bad Bunny has finally formally spoken out in support of Black Lives Matter to Time magazine and asked to forgive his silence.

Bhad Bhabie also received scrutiny for appropriating black culture and not speaking out.

Bhad Bhabie did post a black screen on her Instagram in regards to #blackouttuesday but didn’t use any of the hashtags to raise awareness. So far this has been the only thing she has done for the movement. Fellow female rapper Chika (real name Jane Chika Oranika) called her out for being silent on George Floyd’s murder. She wrote, “bad bhabie lil chickenhead a– been silent, too. we really ain’t caught her outside not once. Hmm.”

Fans called her out too online:

Bhad Bhabie’s silence could be due to her entering rehab for childhood trauma and prescription pill abuse, according to her management. It is still unclear why Bad Bunny stayed silent for so long, but in his statement to Time magazine, he remains remorseful of his silence and ready to be a part of the change.
