Celebrities Giving to Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

While some may focus on what the COVID-19 pandemic is taking from them, others are focusing on what it has given them the opportunity to do. For many celebrities, the latter is true, and they are using the influence, talent and money to support those most in need during the pandemic. 

Here is a list of celebrities and the charities that they are giving to or supporting:

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds donated $500,000 to the charity Feeding America and $500,000 to food banks Canada.

Oprah Winfrey

In an Instagram post, she announced her $10 million donation to coronavirus relief. She is giving $1 million to America’s Food Fund, which was launched by Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs, Apple and the Ford Foundation. The rest will be donated to other groups helping with the pandemic efforts.

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres and Potia De Rossi donated $1 million to the All-in Challenge. The All-in Challenge is a challenge to raise money for nonprofits, so that they can help in the relief of COVID-19. Stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DiNiro have joined the cause and have donated money.

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell donated $150,007.96 to No Kid Hungry (#NoKidHungry). Bell encourages her Instagran followers to donate to No Kid Hungry, stating, “Any amount helps, so we can get through this together.”

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars donated 1 million to MGM Resorts Foundation. The donation will help displaced employees who are out of work due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

The actor and former California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger created a GoFundMe page called Frontline Responders Fund and donated 1 million dollars to the fund. The fund, which has raised more than $7 million to date, will provide medical professionals with the supplies they need to work with patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

 

George and Amal Clooney

The couple donated more than $1 million to several organizations supporting COVID-19 relief, including:  $250,000 each to the Motion Picture and Television Fund, which supports workers in the entertainment industry affected by the pandemic; the SAG-AFTRA Foundation COVID-19 relief fund; and the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles’ Emergency COVID-19 fund. They have also made donations to food banks and health services across the world.

George and Amal Clooney

 

The actress and country music legend donated $1 million to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., towards COVID-19 research and encourages “people that can afford it” to do the same.
