Review: Dandies All Natural, Vegan Marshmallows

By  |

Eating sweets can be a bittersweet experience when trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Being able to enjoy a sweet snack without feeling guilty can now be possible with Dandies. The gelatin-free marshmallows are made with tapioca syrup, cane sugar, filtered water, tapioca starch, carrageenan, soy protein and natural vanilla flavor. Dandies are 100 percent vegan and vegetarian-friendly, all-natural, gluten-free, certified kosher and Non-GMO Project Verified.

The brand was founded by Ryan Howards, who wanted his vegan son to have the opportunity to eat S’mores. This story gave us a glimpse of the passion and creation behind the product. After learning more about Dandies, Hers wanted to put the product to the test and compare the taste to regular marshmallows by making Rice Krispies treats.

Regular Marshmallow recipe

3 tablespoons butter

4 cups JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows

6 cups Sprouted Brown Rice Crisps

Dandies Marshmallow recipe

3 tablespoons butter

4 cups Dandies Miniature Marshmallows

6 cups Sprouted Brown Rice Crisps

Here’s our verdict after the small experiment:

The Rice Krispies treats using Dandies Marshmallow’s tasted less sweet (in a good way), and the consistency was way crunchier when eating it. Dandies marshmallows took longer to melt on the stove, and the bag is more expensive than regular marshmallows at $4.99 for a 10 oz package. They are also harder to purchase as they are not sold in all supermarkets. Dandies are a great guilt-free option, which could make up for the higher price.

While Dandies tasted almost identical to the regular marshmallows, the Jet-puffed marshmallows were sweeter and melted faster on the stove. They also cost only $1.89 for a 16oz package.
