5 Women Snubbed at the 2020 Grammy Awards

By  |

Billie Eilish became the second artist in Grammy history to sweep the Big Four awards: record, song of the year, album and best new artist. While the talented 18-year-old is more than deserving of her awards, some would say that other big-name artists were snubbed at this year’s Grammy awards. Here are some of the most talked about celebs who didn’t win big this year:

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s album “Lover” was released last year and was a big hit among Swift’s fans. Described as a love letter to love itself, the title track “Lover” and the album received several nominations (Song of the Year, Best Pop Album and Best Pop Solo Performance), but the artist went home empty-handed.

Lizzo

Many would have thought that the rising star would have received more awards. With empowering songs such as “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell”, the pop star received three wins in her genre (Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Cuz I Love You,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome” and Best Pop Solo Performance for her No. 1 hit “Truth Hurts”) with eight nominations total. Some would argue that Lizzo deserved more awards.

Lana Del Rey

Old-time Hollywood siren, Lana Del Rey received two nominations for her album “Norman Fucking Rockwell” along with its title track at this year’s Grammys. The star, unfortunately, did not take home any awards.

Ariana Grande

Popstar Ariana Grande was nominated for a total of five awards but went home empty-handed. Some thought that Grande would have won Album of the Year with her hit album “Thank U, Next”, but the star was shut out. With tracks that pay homage to late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, Grande’s loss felt especially personal to those who are still mourning the loss of the rapper.

H.E.R.

The mysterious R&B singer netted five Grammy nominations but received no awards. The artist prefers fans to focus on the music rather than the person singing it, which is why her loss was so confusing to many.

Hannah Chalker is a writer at Hers Magazine. She graduated from the University of Georgia in December of 2019 with a degree in English literature. In her free time, you can find her playing video games or writing poetry while snuggling with her pup, Winnie.
