How Lana Condor Manifested Her Breakout Role

By  |

Star of “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” Lana Condor, said in an interview with Teen Vogue that she unknowingly manifested her role of Lara Jean in the hit Netflix romantic comedy while sitting on an airplane.

“I was on the plane thinking about what opportunity or what project I would love to be a part of, and my first thought was, ‘I would love to be in a romantic comedy,'” Condor said.

She said she quickly wrote off the idea as she was not familiar with very many romantic comedies with Asian-American leads, but her wish for an opportunity soon came true.

“The day after, I got the audition for ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,'” Condor said. “To me, that’s serendipitous because it was almost like I wished it so bad — like, I wanted to be a part of a rom-com so badly.”

In the interview, Condor said that the movie was shot on a low budget, unsure whether it would even get picked up to go in theaters or on a streaming service. It later became one of Netflix’s biggest hits as one of the platform’s most viewed original films.

Condor will soon star in the film’s sequel, “P.S. I Still Love You,” which will be available to stream on Feb. 12 on Netflix. In the sequel Condor stars alongside Noah Centineo and Jordan Fisher.
