Gabbard Called Out for Impeachment Vote

By  |

Democrats, especially female colleagues,  across the political spectrum are openly criticizing House Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s  “present” vote on the impeachment of Pres. Donald Trump.

The U.S. House of Representatives Hawaiian rep and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, Gabbard’s  vote of “present” means that she did not vote on the impeachment, either for or against.

“I am standing in the center and have decided to vote Present. I could not in good conscience vote against impeachment because I believe President Trump is guilty of wrongdoing,” Gabbard said. “I also could not in good conscience vote for impeachment because removal of a sitting President must not be the culmination of a partisan process, fueled by tribal animosities that have so gravely divided our country.”

Gabbard was not only the only woman to vote this way, but also the only House member to do so. Instead, Gabbard stated that she would rather come up with a way to censor the President instead of impeaching him.

While Gabbard stands behind her decision, many women have firecly disagreed with her. One of these women includes congresswoman Alexandria Oscaio-Cortez.

“Today was very consequential, and to not take a stand one way or another, on a day of such great consequence to this country, I think is quite difficult,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “We are sent here to lead.”

Similarly, trending on Twitter Thursday was the hashtag #TusliCoward, and the women on the internet had a lot to say.

“A house divided cannot stand. And today we are divided. Fragmentation and polarity are ripping our country apart,” Gabbard said on Twitter. “Today, I come before you to make a stand for the center, to appeal to all of you to bridge our differences and stand up for the American people.”
