Disney Drops New Live Action ‘Mulan’ Trailer

By  |

A new trailer for the highly anticipated live action “Mulan” is here, and it’s an action packed masterpiece full of fierce energy.

The new film, starring Yifei Liu as Mulan, will follow the same ancient legend of Hua Mulan shown in the 1998 animated musical of a young Chinese woman who poses as a man to take her father’s place in the army.

However, Disney plans to be more respectful and historically accurate in this film after receiving major backlash by Chinese viewers over inaccuracy and subtle racism in the first film. This will be done by removing Mulan’s dragon sidekick, Mushu, from the cast and toning down the presence of songs. They also replaced Mulan’s prior love interest, Li Shang, with a new character, Cheng Honghui.

This trailer seems to have followed suit with that, depicting Mulan as the strong and brave icon that she is, and, despite the changes from the original, Disney fans are on board with it.

Fans can still expect the some parts of this first movie to re-appear — the trailer softly plays the song “Reflection” toward the end.

The film will be released on March 27, 2020.
