Whitney Houston’s Confidante Reveals She Never Feuded With Houston’s Husband

SIn a recent interview with ESSENCE’s Yes, Girl! podcast, Whitney Houston’s best friend and, allegedly, former love, Robyn Crawford, revealed that she and Houston’s husband, Bobby Brown, never met before he and Houston got married.

She said the two never got to know each other much at all, despite her being best friends with his wife, and he never approached her about the rumors around their friendship.

“He and I were not squaring off in Everlast shorts and boxing gloves,” Crawford said.

She did, however, say that she saw firsthand how the marriage affected Houston.

“I watched him make a mess of her trail,” Crawford said. “Bobby was funny. He had a way of shifting the attention to him anywhere, any place, at any time.”

She also said the two women’s strong bond was not threated by his presence.

“I wasn’t competing for anything,” Crawford said. “I had her friendship. I was her friend. And he could have been a better friend too…”

The podcast interview also delved into the origins of their famous friendship. Crawford said they instantly clicked when they first met.

“We were young, fearless and ready, and I was a believer,” Crawford said. “It was happening. Everything she said was happening. She didn’t talk like, ‘I’m going to have a hit record and we’re going to…’ It was none of that. It was like, ‘I’m a singer. I sing. I’m going to get a recording contract, and stick with me and I’ll take you all around the world.’ And that’s exactly what happened…”

Now, she’s focused on celebrating Houston’s life and legacy.

“…I asked myself that question, what would Whitney want? What would Whitney want? So my intent is to raise my friend’s legacy [and] honor our friendships because that’s what she deserves,” Crawford said.

Crawford recently published a book called “A Song For You: My Life With Whitney Houston” about the superstar from her point of view.
