Our Top 5 Feminist Podcasts of 2019

By  |

Podcasts are a good way to exercise our brains, inspire new ideas, widen our perspectives and keep us updated on relevant topics. Whether we’re commuting to work, checking chores off our to-do lists or unwinding at home — podcasts are our audio of choice when we need a little more than just background noise.

Our favorite feminist podcasts are thought-provoking, empowering and encourage us to think differently about the world around us.

These are a few of the female-centric podcasts we’ve been queueing up lately.

1. Unf*ck Your Brain

UnF*ck Your Brain is hosted by Harvard Law graduate and Master Certified Confidence Coach, Kara Loewentheil, J.D. This podcast is the perfect confidence boost for high-achieving women who struggle with anxiety, self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Loewentheil delves into psychology and thought work to help us understand and overcome social conditioning, self-deprecating thoughts and other issues that might hold women back personally and professionally. This podcast helps us redirect our thinking away from anxiety and into ways of thinking that empower women towards reaching their goals.

2. Unladylike

Unladylike explores what happens when women break the rules. Hosted by Atlanta duo and self-proclaimed “podcast wives,” Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin, each episode takes a look at the societal expectations in place that dictate how women live their lives and how women, past and present, have shattered those expectations. The podcast bares questions for the hosts to tackle through in-depth journalistic research and true stories.

3. Girl Boss Radio

Hosted by Sophia Amoruso, CEO and founder of powerhouse brand, Girl Boss, this podcast hones in on honest conversations with trailblazing women and their careers. Women share stories of navigating their personal and professional lives while providing tools and connections to inspire women in persuing their own goals.

4. The Guilty Feminist

The Guilty Feminist is one of the better-known feminist podcasts for its award-winning content. Host and comedian, Deborah Frances-White, covers a variety of modern topics alongside a slew of celebrity guests in a supportive environment.

5. The History Chicks

In hour-long episodes, hosts Beckett Graham and Susan Vollenweider, take us on a walk through women’s history. They introduce us to female characters who may have been overlooked in our history books and dive into the unique lives of each woman highlighted in the episode.

Brittany Maher is a Georgia born writer, poet and journalist. When she’s not wrangling words and slingin’ ink, you can find her by the river with her dog Lego, at a local concert venue or sipping coffee in the poetry section of a bookstore.
