6 Women Who Dominated the Golden Globes

By  |

You may have noticed in the news today that everyone is talking about the Golden Globes snubbing women. Again. However, at last night’s awards show, many women stood up and did some remarkable things, and that should be celebrated.

When the Golden Globes released their nomination list, people were upset as the ‘Best Director’ category did not include any women. This has been a trend at the Globes for many years now. Leading into the 2020 Award show, expectations for women winning awards was low.

However, many women did win, including actress Awkwafina. After accepting the comedy category’s award for Best Actress, she officially became the first Asian-American woman to win a Golden Globe in a lead actress film category.

Michelle Williams also stood out last night during her acceptance speech for Best Actress in a Limited Series. She commented about women’s rights, encouraging all women from “18 to 118” to vote in the next political election.

Patricia Arquette begged the audience to give their kids a better world than we live in today.

… and then she accidentally hit Joey King in the face with her award.

Kate McKinnon got emotional during her speech over Ellen Degeneres, where she described how Degeneres’ coming out story helped her to feel welcomed as a lesbian in the entertainment industry.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge personally thanked Obama for her award after that “Fleabag” scene, causing everyone to burst into laughter.

Oh, and how can we forget Beyoncé making yet another iconic fashion statement? She came. She conquered.

While women may not have held the top spot during the Golden Globes, it is still evident that they were a dominant part of the night and have earned all their seats at the table.
