2020 Oscars’ Best Dressed Stars

By  |

The 2020 Oscars were a historic night in ways both good and bad. Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” swept the night, making huge steps for representation as the first foreign language film to win Best Picture, yet women directors were notably snubbed yet again. These triumphs and defeats were present before the show even began in red carpet fashion, where Natalie Portman made headlines with her regal cape honoring female directors who did not receive nominations.

If one word could describe last night’s red carpet trends, it would be regal. Old Hollywood turned new with fresh takes on classic silhouettes. Black dresses, sparkling metallics and bold jewel tones dominated the night. Here are some of the most memorable looks.

Portman called attention to female directors that deserved recognition this year with her embroidered cape. The accessory shouted out the directors of several critically acclaimed films, including Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”), Lorene Scafaria (“Hustlers”), Lulu Wang (“The Farewell”) and Marielle Heller (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”).

Under the cape, the actress wore a black and gold Dior gown.
