Whoopi Goldberg Reprises Role As Medium For Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’
Known for her Academy Award-winning role as psychic Oda Mae Brown in the 1990 cult-classic “Ghost,” Whoopi Goldberg is set to become an all-knowing character once again.
This time, it’s for Stephen King’s upcoming remake of “The Stand.”
Goldberg announced her role in the project on ABC’s “The View,” where she is a co-host.
King also announced as a guest on “The View” that he is writing an alternate ending for the series.
As reported by CBS All Access, Goldberg will play, “Mother Abagail, a prophet who receives visions from God and guides survivors of the superflu” in the limited series.
She joins a star-studded cast that includes Amber Heard, Owen Teague, Jovan Adepo and Brad William Henke. Alexander Skarsgard is set to play Goldberg’s antagonist, Randall Flag.
“The Stand” was a four-part mini-series originally broadcast in 1994 on ABC. Its story is similar to the book of the same name, also written by King.
The story follows two groups of survivors after a plague wipes out most of civilization. One group is led by Goldberg’s character, Mother Abagail, the other by Skarsgard’s Randall Flag. The two compete in a showdown between light and dark.
