Travel Review: InterContinental Hotel Hong Kong

By  |

Following our international flight to Hong Kong, using the InterContinental Hotel’s car service provided ease of pickup at the airport. We were whisked away in comfort to the luxury property, dramatically set at the water’s edge of Victoria Harbour. Greeted by a doorman, we were pleasantly turned over to the guest relations staff poised at the entrance. However, it was hard to focus on the check-in process, captivated by breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island, seen through the multi-level expanse of windows surrounding the lobby and bar areas.

My husband had to pull me away to follow the attendant to our room. This corner Executive King Suite, gave passage to gorgeous sunrises over the harbour with the push of a bottom to open the draperies covering the floor to ceiling windows. The sumptuous contemporary designed space with Asian accents featured a living area with desk, sofa and table. This was an inviting retreat, with large flat screen TV, BOSE sound system, coffee/tea service, mini-bar, fresh fruit bowl, butler service, morning newspaper and nightly turndown service. The walk in closet held a personal safe, plush robes and slippers. The marble bathroom entered from the foyer provided a nice separation from the living areas. Salvatore Farragamo toiletries were displayed on shelves in the marble bathroom designed with a sunken tub and stall shower.

Complimentary internet is provided for rewards members. Adapters and convertors had to be requested but were promptly delivered. The hotel staff – fluent in nine languages – maintained an air of polished professionalism.

There’s no reason to miss an exercise routine with an outdoor pool, three infinity spa pools, a fully equipped Fitness Centre, Tai Chi and yoga classes, along with walking on the promenade behind the hotel. There are several active construction projects around the hotel area but the noise was not an issue in the room.

Notable restaurants NOBU and SPOON are in the hotel but its walking distance to other dining choices, shopping on Nathan Road or visiting the Hong Kong Fine Arts, Space or Cultural Museums. In the evening, return to this museum area to be wowed by the “Symphony of Lights” with lasers lighting up the city skyline synchronized to music.

We ate breakfast at the hotel’s Harbourside Restaurant and lingered over coffee watching the tiny sampans and junks and the occasional cruise ship moving through the Harbour past the hotel. After a long day of sightseeing, we’d sit mesmerized at the twinkling lights on Hong Kong Island, over drinks in the lobby lounge. This truly is one of the most spectacular views in all of Hong Kong.
