A mother-of-two completed an Ironman competition in Tempe, Arizona, while pumping breast milk.

Jaime Sloan, 34, who gave birth to her second child, Carter, in March, pumped breast milk during the run portion of the race to feed the baby. The active-duty Air Force Airman also has daughter Henley, 2, with her husband, Zachary Sloan.

On October 21, she completed the Ironman 70.3 race, which is half the distance of the 140.6-mile triatholon, in 6 hours, 12 minutes and 44 seconds. “I’m glad I did it because I ended up getting a personal record, and it was important for me to pump, especially with my supply issues,” said Sloan who had been having low breast milk production.

An Ironman one of a series of long-distance triathlon races consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) raced in that order and without a break. Sloan had completed two 140.6 Ironman races previously.

Sloan initially intended to stop between the 56-mile bicycle ride and the 13.1-mile run and pump if necessary, but after noticing how quick her time was she decided to “pump and run.”

Sgt Sloan, who worked pumping into her training schedule, said she was nervous about the idea of doing it during the race. “To be honest, it was a little bit awkward, just because I was so tired from the ride and the swim,” she told Kennedy News and Media. “I was trying to get it going, and there were people everywhere and I was trying not to flash them. I was nervous at first that I would get some weird looks or even get disqualified due to nudity, but I did my best to cover up and make it work.”

“I hope that it can encourage other women and mothers and really anyone who has a lot going on in their lives,” she said according to Kennedy News and Media,

“There’s always a way that you can make it happen; you might have to get a little creative from time to time. No matter what, if someone believes they can do something, they can make it happen because it is possible.”
