DC Confirms Harley Quinn’s Sexuality

By  |

DC Entertainment subtly confirmed that Harley Quinn is bisexual in their new film, “Birds of Prey.”

Margot Robbie resumes her role as Harley Quinn, teaming up with numerous other female super heroes. In a scene where Quinn lists her exes while discussing her origin story, you see a brief image of a woman among the men.

The film left Quinn’s sexuality at that rather than focusing on it. The film is about Quinn finding her independence after her breakup from the Joker, so it does not focus on romantic relationships between Quinn and anyone else.

Fans of the comics already knew that Quinn has an intimate relationship with Poison Ivy at one point, so Quinn’s sexuality did not come as a surprise to them. LGBTQ+ representation in superhero films has been growing, but still hasn’t reached a major point yet. Marvel has made more of an effort to widen representation in their films, with DC just now taking the hint to include different sexualities in their movies.

Margot Robbie stated that she is interested in exploring the storyline between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, although she may not get the chance because of the low box office turnout for “Birds of Prey.”

Hannah Chalker is a writer at Hers Magazine. She graduated from the University of Georgia in December of 2019 with a degree in English literature. In her free time, you can find her playing video games or writing poetry while snuggling with her pup, Winnie.
