Cinco Tequila Cocktails to Liven up Your Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo! If straight tequila shots aren't your thing, try these five tequila cocktails to liven up your night this Cinco de Mayo.

 

 

 

 

Home-Made Margarita

Ingredients

Ice cubes

3 ounces tequila

2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice

1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows

1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur

1 tablespoon Lime-salt-sugar, recipe follows

Simple Syrup:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

Lime-salt-sugar:

Zest of one lime

2 tablespoons kosher salt

2 tablespoons sugar

Directions

Simple Syrup:

Put the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. (Alternatively, heat in the microwave.) Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Lime-salt-sugar:

Blend together lime, salt and sugar in a small blender or mini food chopper.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, Simple Syrup and orange liqueur. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Place Lime-salt-sugar on a plate. Press the rim of a chilled rocks or wine glass into the mixture to rim the edge. Strain margarita into the glass.

Tequila Sunrise

Ingredients

1 1/2 ounces tequila

3/4 cup orange juice

3/4  ounce grenadine syrup

Orange slice, for garnish

High-quality maraschino cherry, such as Luxardo, for garnish

Directions

In a highball glass filled with ice, pour in the tequila and orange juice. Slowly pour the grenadine into the glass over the back of a spoon or by drizzling it down the side of the glass, allowing it to settle at the bottom. Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.

 

Rosé Margarita

Ingredients

1 cup simple syrup

Sugar

1 cup lime juice

1 cup tequila

1 bottle rosé

1 lime, sliced into wedges

 

Directions

Dip the rims of margarita glasses in simple syrup, then rim each one in sugar.

In a pitcher, add simple syrup, lime juice, tequila, and rosé.

Stir well.

Add ice and lime wedges to each glass.

Pour, and serve.

Tequila Slammer

Ingredients

1 ounce tequila

1 ounce ginger ale or

lemon-lime soda

Directions

Pour the ingredients into a shot glass. Cover the glass with a napkin and your hand. Slam the glass on a table/counter. Drink while it's still fizzing.

Tequila Matador

Ingredients

2 ounces tequila

3 ounces pineapple juice

1⁄2 ounce lime juice

Directions

Shake with ice and strain into serving glass.

Serve.
