Bobbi Kristina – Is This an Imitation of Life?

By  |

For many, the news of Bobbi Kristina Brown, the 21-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, being found unresponsive in a tub of water Saturday, January 31st, has hit extremely hard. The way in which she was found is eerily similar to her mother’s accidental drowning. Even more so unsettling is how close to the day, February 11th, three years ago that her mother passed away.

Because very little official information has been released on her medical status and the circumstances surrounding Bobbi Kristina’s discovery, there can only be speculation of what truly happened in her Roswell, Georgia, home where her husband, Nick Gordon, reportedly found her unresponsive, facedown in a bathtub. Some media outlets are reporting that police swept the house for drugs, but none were found. Others, like TMZ, recently stated that police did, in fact, find drugs after a second search of the premises. Various reports claim that Bobbi Kristina is allegedly brain dead and on life support while others state that she has been placed in a medically induced coma. No one on the outside truly knows but her father, Bobby, released a statement to the press via his attorney asking that the family have privacy at this time. Other family members, including Jon Houston, have taken to Twitter to express the need for prayer and support.

It is no secret and quite understandable that Bobbi Kris has endured much heartache and very turbulent times over the past three years. There have been reports of drug abuse mirroring her mother, as well as her family being concerned about her health both mentally and physically. The family has been in the news quite a bit since Whitney’s death in regards to Bobbi Kris’ inheritance of her mother’s estate and her ability to withstand the pressure of being the daughter of such a world famous icon.

Over the past two years, Bobbi Kris has seemingly chosen to live her life on her terms, often at the ire of her family who she has fought with since her mother passed. It was a year ago last month, to her family’s displeasure, she confirmed that she had married Nick Gordon, a young man who had been raised alongside her as a brother since he was 12 years old. Whitney never formally adopted him, however. Although this is unconfirmed and quite possibly speculation, some suggest that Nick could be set to inherit some, if not all, of his wife’s estate should the unfortunate happen and Bobbi Kris passes. Like her father, Bobby Brown, during her mother’s funeral, Nick is currently restricted from coming anywhere near the hospital, according to new reports.

Bobbi Kristina has lived her entire existence under a microscope, resulting in public ridicule of her actions and even her reactions to the derision. What may be seen as typical teen recklessness for the average child was deemed as unacceptable, abhorrent behavior for Bobbi Kris. No one really knows what life has been like for Bobbi Kris, having grown up watching her parents continuously being analyzed by the public and media. She has been very vocal about how much she loves and misses her mother. Adding to this is the recent release of the biopic, “Whitney,” that chronicled her mother’s life. Just last year, Bobbi Kris took to Twitter to express just how much angst she had about Angela Bassett’s decision to direct the TV movie. No one knows what effect all of this has had on her and how it has attributed to the state we now find her in. Still, most everyone has an opinion about who she is, how the situation likely occurred or how it could have been prevented.

The main question: Was this done on purpose? Did Bobbi Kris simply want out, opting to no longer deal with a heavy heart while battling critics and personal demons? Was this simply a cry for help or maybe just attention? We may never really know what led up to where we are today as we wait, unsure of the final outcome. Meanwhile, what we do know without question is that Bobbi Kris has endured much in her 21 years. This is not a time to ridicule and sensationalize such a delicate state of affairs, but it is a time to reflect on our own family and make sure that they know exactly how much we care.
