In 2017, Zendaya joined the cast of Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. to play Michelle aka MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming. 2 years later with a sequel returning, Zendaya is paying homage to her character by dying her hair a shocking red—MJ’s signature color.

On a press tour to promote her upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Zendaya showed up with straightened auburn locks at a London photo call. Some fans speculated that her new look was confirmation for her role in the live action Little Mermaid. However, Zendaya was quick to deny these rumors on Twitter claiming her new do was a “MJ homage.”

It’s not unusual for Zendaya to change her looks. After all, she’s a fashion queen who’s rocked faux locs, afros, and even a blonde bob. Unlike her other hairstyles, this new hairdo is real, no wigs or clip-ins. When a fan asked “is it a wig or dye? We gotta know,” Zendaya confirmed in a tweet, “I dyed it, semi-permanent.

Zendaya also posted her stunning hairstyle on Instagram with a caption titled “Face it, Tiger,” a phrase Mary Jane said when she first met Peter Parker in the Spider-Man comics.
