Why Jennifer and Justin Couldn’t Make It Work
Over the years, Jennifer Aniston has snagged quite a few of Hollywood’s top men such as Paul Rudd, Vince Vaughn, John Mayer, Brad Pitt and most recently, Justin Theroux. But unfortunately, with each exciting romance came a tragic split.
In Jen’s defense, the breakups were sometimes for reasons out of her control like the “Brangelina” fiasco. But, why divorce number two? Why couldn’t Aniston and Theroux make it work after only two years of marriage?
The couple waited to announce their split until two days after Amy Schumer’s secret wedding which took place on Feb 13. Since Jennifer attended the wedding, it is speculated that she waited to announce her separation out of respect for Schumer’s big day.
Jennifer’s publicist shared a joint statement from the couple, saying, “In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
Apparently, there have been some cracks in the couples’ foundation since before the engagement. According to an Us Weekly source, “He [Theroux] had reservations at the time because they still hadn’t figured out where they were going to live as a couple. Justin was absolutely head over heels in love with Jen — and probably always will be — but marriage was never important to him. Marriage was always just a piece of paper to Justin, and he didn’t need it.”
Aniston, however, felt very differently about marriage. “Constant scrutiny of Jen’s personal life, including whether she would ever find her happily ever after, played a huge role in her marriage to Justin,” the source said. “It was obvious Jen needed more than an engagement or to be life partners with Justin. He didn’t want to lose her, so they got married.”
After getting married, the couple never really settled on a place to live. Aniston preferred the California life while Theroux was a New Yorker at heart. Unlike her most famous character, Rachel from Friends, Jen is a beach girl who prefers her privacy and space as opposed to the crowded streets of the big city.
According to an E News insider, “They have always just been two very different people with very different characters who just happened to fall in love. He’s more nomadic, more of a free spirit; he’s rugged and urban, and Jennifer just isn’t that kind of person.”
At the end of the day, this is one of those love stories where love simply wasn’t enough. While the couple truly cared for one another, there were conflicting personalities, lifestyles and an entire country of space keeping them apart.
