Sophie Turner Reflects on ‘Game of Thrones’ Role

By  |

As the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” came to a close last Sunday, many of the actors and actresses posted personal tributes to the characters they played, one of the most inspiring and popular was that of Sophie Turner.

The English actress played Sansa Stark, a character who audiences both loved and loved to hate. Sansa’s story was one of great triumph and strength, but also great tragedy. The eldest Stark daughter, as fans will know, lived long enough to her past abusers get what was coming to them, and for her to take her place as (SPOILERS!) Queen in the North.

In her touching Instagram post the night of the finale, Turner said, “Thank you for teaching me resilience, bravery and what true strength really is.” The post got almost 4 million likes, one of her most popular posts yet along with the behind-the-scenes post of the series finale.

Turner, who has been in the role since the age of 13, cites “growing up with” Sansa as a major part of her life. The opportunities that Turner was awarded from being thrust into international recognition and fame by Game of Thrones have led to other lead roles.

Her other most notable character is Jean Grey of the “X-Men” franchise. Turner plays a young Jean learning to control her powers, and through the role, she continues to inspire women to persevere and to know their own strength.

“I leave you behind, but I will never leave behind what you’ve taught me,” Turner remarks, later thanking the showrunners and cast for their support. The thoughtful note comes alongside two behind the scenes photos of the cast. After the episode premiered, Turner made a second post containing another behind the scenes photo of herself and the actors who play the other two remaining Stark children, Maisie Williams and Isaac Wright.
