Mystery Doorbell Woman Breaks Silence

By  |

A mysterious woman caught on camera ringing a doorbell in apparent need for help has broken her silence after a five-day search ended in the discovery of her boyfriend, who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Texas woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told interviewers Sunday that after being sexually assaulted by her boyfriend, 49-year-old Dennis Ray Collins, she broke free of her bondage restraints, and fled to her neighbors’ home, saying she “was in a lot of fear.”

Surveillance footage of the woman trying the doorbell of her neighbors’ home went viral, leading to nationwide attention. Law enforcement officials in Montgomery County reported that they were inundated with calls from locals concerned that the woman pictured might be a friend or family member. Collins, who was described by his brother as depressed, would go on to take his life after the video gained widespread attention, though not solely for that reason.

“He killed himself not out of guilt, but because he couldn’t stand his daughter thinking of him that way and because he had been unhappy for a long time,” Jeff Collins, Dennis Ray Collins’ brother, told ABC News. “My brother’s come out looking like a monster in all this but he wasn’t. He was a good man. They were both good people.”

The woman sexually assaulted by Collins seems to agree.

“I forgave Dennis long before he was gone, and love him. I know he too forgave and loved me,” the anonymous woman said in the statement. “People would like to paint Dennis or myself as entirely good or entirely evil, light or dark, every human has both of these inside.”
