Make Mom Tear Up with these 5 Sentimental Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

By  |

It’s the Friday before Mother’s Day which means all of the stores are getting flooded by people searching for flowers, cards, candles, chocolates, fleece blankets, all of your basic non-personal gifts. And while Moms will usually appreciate whatever you give them the same way they gladly accepted every single kindergarten painting, it may be time to step up your gift giving game a bit.

Check out these 5 sentimental gift options that will tug on Mom’s heart strings and really show how much you love an appreciate her. They’re not too difficult or expensive (some will only take your time), but each just has that little bit of emotional effort that can potentially make this one of your mom’s best Mother’s Days ever.

  1. Photos, Photos, Photos

Moms love memories. This Mother’s Day, give your mom the gift of cherished memories rather than something simply material. There are several options if you want to go the picture route. Everything is so digital now that we forget how nice it is to have our photos actually printed out and in our hands. Try saving some of your mom’s photos off of Facebook or using good shots that have sat forgotten on your phone. Go to your local convenient store, print out said photos, and put together an album for your mom. They can be family photos, old childhood pictures, maybe some from a favorite vacation, or a combination. Wait and see her face light up as she flips through the pages.

  1. Experiences Instead of Things

For this year’s gift, get your mom something that she can do, or better yet that you can do together. Get her a gift card for massages or a spa day. You can also give her tickets to an upcoming play or sports event. Moms love spending time with you, so planning a trip or event out this year will not only make for a great Mother’s Day, but it will give her something to look forward to.

  1. Help Out Around the House

Give your mom the day off! Make her breakfast in bed, and don’t let her lift a finger the rest of the day. Since your mom has taken care of you for a good chunk of your life, it’s time to return the favor. It can be anything from dusting, vacuuming, doing laundry and/or making dinner to something more complex depending on how handy you are. If you’re not sure where to begin, ask her for a list of things she wants done around the house. She’ll probably get a kick out of it, and she’ll enjoy watching you bustle around the house.

  1. Make a List

This one may sound a little cheesy, but sometimes cheesy can be nice. Even though we know we love our moms, we sometimes forget to tell them. Mother’s Day is the perfect time to remedy this. Make her a list of 10 or 100 things that you love about her. It can be everything from a favorite dish that she makes to you letting her know you appreciate that she came to every band/chorus concert you were in. Taking the time to write out all the things you love and appreciate about her will touch her more than you think, and she’ll probably cherish it more than she would a piece of jewelry or a flowery candle.

  1. Get Crafty

Depending on your skill level, this could mean anything from making her a book shelf to getting out the glitter glue for a scrapbook or some homemade coupons. Whatever your skillset, your mom will love what you make her. So, take a tip out of the old macaroni art handbook, but put an adult spin on it, and make her something she’ll really enjoy whether it be practical or sentimental. Not every gift has to be store bought.
