Kim Kardashian Receives Backlash on Her Makeup and Shapewear Launch

By  |

From reality TV to beauty products, Kim Kardashian West seems to be successful at most everything she endeavors, but that hasn’t been the case with her most recent shapewear launch, Kimono Solutionwear, and her newest KKW Beauty product: Skin Perfecting Body Foundation.

Since the announcement of the body makeup, Kardashian has received much backlash from people who perceive it as a tool for promoting unrealistic beauty standards for women.

One of the most vocal critics is Jameela Jamil who tweeted a response to a video of the body foundation, “Hard pass. God damn the work to take it all off before bed so it doesn’t destroy your sheets… I’d rather just make peace with my million stretch marks and eczema. Taking off my mascara is enough of a pain in the arse. Save money and time and give yourself a damn break.”

After Kardashian announcing her new line called Kimono Solutionwear and receiving backlash over the name, she has decided to change the name.

Initially, she took to Twitter to introduce the shapewear line to her fans, saying, “I’ve been passionate about this for 15 years. Kimono is my take on shapewear and solutions for women that actually work.”

However, as anticipated by those who have been keeping track of the Kardashian’s history of cultural appropriation, Kim is being accused of disrespecting the Japanese culture with the name “Kimono.”  Fans responded to the accusations, even offering other name suggestions for the line.

On Monday, she heeded her critics and reversed course with the name, saying, “…after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon.”
