When Kylie Jenner landed the cover of “Forbes” magazine’s 2018 List of America’s Richest Self-Made Women last week, lots of people on social media took issue with the term “self-made,” saying Jenner was already rich. Her sister Kim Kardashian is defending not only Kylie, but their entire family.

Founded in November 2015, Kylie Cosmetics is now worth nearly $800 million, according to “Forbes.” Jenner, 20, is on track to surpass Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder, as the youngest self-made millionaire, making her the 27th richest self-made women in the United States.

“I really didn’t get it because she is self-made. We are all self-made,” Kim Kardashian West, 37, told Refinery29. “What, because we came from a family that has had success? To me, that doesn’t really make sense.”

Kylie Cosmetics has earned an estimated $250 million in net profit and has completely sold out products after every release date. Jenner, who attended and graduated from a private school in Southern California, reportedly used her own money from endorsement deals to make the first 15,000 lip kits.

“Me, Kylie, not one [of the siblings] has ever depended on our parents for anything besides advice,” Kim added. “That’s how I lived my life with my dad. He never gave me anything. We might have the opportunity, but I’ve seen it go the complete opposite way. Nobody works harder than my sisters and my mom.”

According to “Forbes,” Kylie’s net worth far exceeds all other family members in the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Despite the impressive numbers and success of Kylie, the Internet has mixed reactions, particularly to a “self-made.”

The Kardashian-Jenner family started in their reality television show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” since 2007. Kylie Jenner was 10 when the show first premiered. The show chronicled the ups and downs of life in the Kardashian-Jenner household, providing a platform for many family members to launch and promote their own businesses in fashion, make-up, personal apps, modeling, and online games.

With the many years of success in the Kardashian-Jenner clan, many on the Internet are yelling foul at “Forbes” claiming Kylie as a “self-made.” Even Dictionary.com even got in on the criticism, tweeting about the true definition.

Other notables on the “Forbes” list include Oprah Winfrey, who grew up in poverty to a teenage single mother in Mississippi. Diane Hendricks also made the list. She is the co-founder and chairmen of ABC Supply, one of the largest wholesale distributors or siding, windows, and roofing. Only earning a high school diploma and growing up as one of nine sisters on a Wisconsin dairy farm, Hendricks built her business from the ground up. No one is debating either woman’s self-made status.
