Hillary Clinton, One Step Closer to Becoming Madam President

By  |

Chelsea Clinton introduced her mother, Hillary Clinton, on the final day of the Democratic National Convention as Hillary accepted her party’s nomination for president.

Chelsea spoke affectionately of memories growing up with a loving, committed, workaholic mother. “No matter what was going on in her life, she was always there for me,” said Chelsea shortly before introducing a biopic produced by Shonda Rhimes and narrated by Morgan Freeman.

When President Barack Obama spoke about Hilllary during the convention on Wednesday, July 27, he described some of the personal attacks she has endured. “She has been accused of everything you can imagine and some things that you cannot,” he said.

Now, as the official nominee for the Democratic party, Hillary awaits a more dignified designation, that of Madam President. She noted the historic nature and significance of her nomination, saying to thunderous applause, “This is the first time that a major party has nominated a woman for president.”

Ninety-six years after women got the right to vote in the United States, Hillary spoke for nearly 60 minutes on Thursday, July 28, invoking hopeful themes while dismantling Donald J. Trump’s character, background and platform.

With a broad smile or what some would call a smirk, Hillary said she believes in science, mocking Trump’s rejection of global warming. She disqualified him as dangerous for the country, saying “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man you can trust with nuclear weapons.”

Trump Climate Change TweetShe warned his supporters, “Don’t believe anyone who says ‘I alone can fix it.’” As she looked to a hopeful future for the country, she also cautioned about succumbing to fear. “He wants us to fear the future and fear each other.”

Her hopeful tone resonated with  the DNC crowd who interrupted her at times, chanting “Hillary, Hillary, Hillary.” She celebrated America’s diversity, adding, “We have the most dynamic and diverse people in the world.”

Looking to make significant strides in the first year of her presidency, she declared her main task as president would be to provide more opportunities and more jobs with better pay in the United States.

Her victory, she feels, will be a victory for others. “When any barrier falls in America, for anyone, it clears the way for everyone,” she said.

“When there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit,” Hillary said, reminding women that they can now reach for the proverbial sky in life and career.

In the end, the convention speech was capped with her formal acceptance. “I accept your nomination as president of the United States.”
