Demi Lovato is ‘Stable’ After Overdose

By  |

Demi Lovato was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday from her Los Angeles home after a suspected heroin overdose.

TMZ, which first reported the news, said that Lovato was found unconscious and treated with Narcan, a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. According to the most recent news reports, the singer is in stable condition.

At a concert in Brazil several months ago, the 25-year-old  former-Disney pop star broke down in tears while performing her new song ‘Sober,’ admitting that she had relapsed after six years of sobriety. Her vulnerability is heart-wrenching and her plight is far too common among the world of the rich and famous.

“Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore//
And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor//
To the ones who never left me//
We’ve been down this road before//
I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.”

Lovato has been incredibly open with her fans about her history with substance abuse, bulimia and bipolar disorder, chronicling her struggles with recovery in the 2017 YouTube original documentary “Simply Complicated.” She discussed her rehabilitation due to self-harm and cocaine/alcohol/OxyContin dependency during interviews and in her music.

She rose to fame on the Disney Channel’s popular children’s series “Barney & Friends” and then went on to a breakthrough role as Mitchie Torres in Disney Channel’s “Camp Rock” in 2008. Her discography reflects her state of mind and its fluctuation throughout the years. From the release of her self-titled album “Don’t Forget” in 2008, she narrates her life challenges and her newfound sobriety on high-energy, empowering, mania-induced pop tracks and ballads like Unbroken.

Her career blossomed beautifully in the time that she was reportedly clean, and she utilized her struggles to be a voice of hope for her fans who share similar vices and illnesses. She maintained an optimistic dialogue with her audience throughout her success, trying to transform the pain from her past into a medium to help and inspire others through her songs and influence as a judge on “The X Factor.”

Since her hospitalization, Fox cancelled the episode featuring Lovato of “Beat Shazam” with Jamie Foxx that was supposed to air tonight. Meanwhile, fans are awaiting her return home with prayers and hope.
