Her-iscopes: Career Predictions from the Stars

By  |  0 Comments

Happy birthday, Scorpio and Sagittarius!

October 23-November 21

Strengths: Passionate, assertive, loyal, brave

Weaknesses: Stubborn, jealous, irritable

Your career predictions: Your great ideas and natural leadership skills mean that people naturally flock to you. They know you’ll kill it both in the big presentation and at office karaoke. You will (finally!) be rewarded with a leadership position, but when someone who now reports to you messes up, your first instinct will be to fly off the handle at them. Don’t give into this temptation. Take a walk, vent to a neutral party, and think diplomatically. You’ve worked too hard to get to your new position to let your temper sabotage it.

November 22-December 21

Strengths: Adventurous, charismatic, optimistic, free spirit

Weaknesses: Impatient, blunt, scatterbrained

Your career predictions: Your least favorite thing in the world is feeling “stuck,” and you’ve been feeling this way lately. Perhaps you’re happy in your chosen field or job, in which case see if there’s a new technology or skill you can learn to help your business. Your intelligence and curiosity means you thrive in an academic setting, even if you don’t plan on formally furthering your education. If you’re not happy in your chosen job or field, take on tasks closer to your chosen field, or if not available, do it as a side hustle. Just be organized and don’t neglect your main job duties!

December 22-January 19

You know how we dislike in other people what we dislike in ourselves? Well, Capricorn, you loathe being micromanaged, but when it comes time for you to supervise someone, you might find yourself falling into some micromanaging traps. Relax! Train the person properly, but then trust them to apply their training properly. Point out minor mistakes gently. Don’t shoot down their questions. They’ve—and you’ve—got this!

January 20-February 18

You like to help people, but your idea of helping is “I wear a spandex costume under my clothes to help everyone in need” whereas everyone else’s is “we help our clients/customers.” Tap into your “super” altruism by researching ways to volunteer in your community or finding causes for which your company can fundraise. There are more ways than ever to volunteer these days, from VolunteerMatch which shows you new opportunities in your community every week (kind of like a Monster or Indeed job posting alert) to Taproot, which shows you one-off volunteer projects if you prefer freelancing.

February 19-March 20

You may or may not be artistic, Pisces, but you’re certainly creative. Your unique way of looking at things intrigues people. Unfortunately, this means you’re prone to daydreaming and distraction. Even if your work network has proxies for forbidden sites, you still find ways to procrastinate. Download apps and extensions for your work computer like StayFocused or StrictWorkflow, and for the love of all that is holy, mute that group chat!

March 21-April 19

You bristle at being told what to do. If you’re an intern or entry-level, let it go. You’re here to learn, but do keep notes on how you think the environment could be improved, if you think management would be receptive—sometimes a fresh perspective is sorely needed. If you’re management yourself, be patient and listen. Really listen—don’t just pretend to and then do what you were going to do anyway. Again, sometimes a fresh perspective is sorely needed!

April 20-May 20

You’re practical and focused, but your “I’m not here to make friends” attitude about work is holding you back. If you balk at the thought of imbibing one too many mulled wines at the office holiday party—as well you should—socialize on a smaller scale. Schedule a coffee date with someone in your field, whether they’re at your current company or not. Your first thought was probably someone senior whose career you admire. Not so fast—you have wisdom that could help someone junior. Perhaps they have something to teach you as well.

May 21-June 20

Your curiosity means you’re always hungry for other people’s perspectives and stories. Extroverted Geminis can be found asking people questions about their lives, introverted Geminis devour books, magazines, any story they can get their hands on. But soon, your camera lens is going to get turned on you, and it will be time for you to tell your story. Resist the temptation to regurgitate others’ stories and opinions. What you really believe, feel, and have experienced will have a clue for your next adventure.

June 21-July 22

You’re good at spotting what needs to be done and doing it, be it run that important sales report or fix the copier jam, but your background work on top of your regular work is making you feel unappreciated and, dare I say it, resentful. Be sure to keep a running tab of tangible ways you’ve helped the company (especially if you’ve helped them save money—I guarantee, every CEO in every industry in interested in saving money) for your next performance review. Then, when it comes, bring the receipts! If you’re still not recognized with more money or upward mobility after that, it’s time to look elsewhere.

July 23-August 22

Your fierce sense of loyalty means that you prefer quality over quantity in friendships and relationships. You approach your career in a similar way, preferring smaller start-ups to large corporations where you think you’d be just a cog in a machine. But you’re also interested in growth and lately you’ve been itching for something . . . more. If you like your current company, research ways to bring in more clients/customers. If not, take the plunge and leave for a bigger company. Your natural warmth will cultivate a family atmosphere, whether a company has five employees or five hundred.

August 23-September 22

Good news first or bad news first, Virgo? The good news is that your perfectionist tendencies are impressing people. They like that you get it done right the first time. The bad news is that you’re at your wit’s end, plagued with procrastination, turning in projects at the last second, and obsessing over things you could have done differently when you do turn them in. Take a breath! Ask for help. You may think only you can do what you do, but another pair of eyes will be a blessing.

September 23-October 22

You’re the queen of the pros-and-cons list, but as you face a huge (but good!) upcoming career decision, don’t ruminate over your trusty little list. Allow outside perspectives to weigh in and consider all sides. Of course, don’t let Joe Blow off the street tell you what you should do—talk to dear friends, family, colleagues and mentors who know your strengths, weaknesses, and goals most intimately. Filter out the “yes”-people too. This is big, and you will need the truth, even if it’s hard to hear.
