20 Most Prestigious Internship Programs for 2018

By  |

Students across the country know that an internship is essential in order to get their foot in the door of any industry. With competition for internships at the most desirable U.S. companies at an all-time high, Vault.com has compiled top internship rankings per industry and overall.

This past summer, Vault surveyed more than 12,000 current and former interns from more than 110 internship programs. In addition to asking respondents to rate and review their own internship experiences for the 2018 Best Internships Rankings, they asked interns to rate the prestige of other employers, to determine which internships are the most desirable. Survey respondents were presented with a list of top companies and, on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the highest (“It’s a dream job!”) and one being the lowest (“No one wants to work there”), they were asked to rate each company on how prestigious its internship is. Interns were asked to rate only the companies with whose reputations they were familiar. The ratings were averaged for each employer and then ranked the companies in order, starting with the highest score as No. 1 down to No. 50.

Another says, “Google offers amazing benefits, opportunities, and products. It’s the No. 1 place to be.”

In addition to Google maintaining its top spot, Apple and Facebook held on to the No. 2 and No. 3 ranking, respectively, while Microsoft leaped over Goldman Sachs to take the No. 4 spot, pushing Goldman to No. 5. The other major move among the top 10 was Amazon rising from No. 11 to No. 7. Notable among the top 20, Netflix, in its first time in the survey, ranked No. 12. Survey takers called the booming streaming service “fresh and exciting,” “fast-paced and fun,” and said it “could become another Google or Amazon—maybe it already has.”

Meanwhile, the Boston Consulting Group rose three places to No. 16, and Mercedes-Benz jumped three places to No. 19. Vault has survey quotes for each ranked firm, available on request.
